Decorating My Dorm Door for Christmas

So I started decorating in early December. I just didn't get to post about it until now =) studying for finals and all. So the first thing I tried was to make a yarn Christmas tree. I planned after it dried to cut it in half so that I would have two that have flat backs so I could put one on either side of my door.

Turned out that using newspaper was a bad idea. took forever to detach it and I couldn't get all of it =) but this could easily be fixed with a little glitter. Would make it look purposeful and sparkly, because the newspaper would a perfect spot for glitter to stick.
 Supplies:

This little snowman is the one I made. It is just printer paper. The nose is a piece of a orange box, the face is sharpie, and the buttons are pennies. the scarf is actually crocheted =) its two squares, the bottom one has the top corners attached and tassels attached to bottom.

This is Cristina's =) This is also printer paper and she used cut outs from magazines to make all the features

We change the steering wheel's cover to match the Winter theme and because we did not have a red and green we used and shades of blue. You simply start anywhere and just wrap over the end and then continue around. I then used tinsel string to tie tiny Christmas balls to it.

These is the finished trees. I cut them in half and then glued the backs to green construction paper. They didn't really fit in with the rest of our decorations. So our friends, who also happen to be our next door neighbors, let us put them next do there door. They said they would decorate them sometime soon, but finals have slowed that down a bit =)

You can see in these pictures the newspaper that I could not get off. I later looked it up and found out the styrofoam works better, but newspaper is free =)

So that's all for now =) See ya soon. Post after finals, they've been crazy. Btw all of these supplies were things I had on hand, so all the projects were totally free =)

Belated Description of the Thanksgiving Door Decorations

My roommate and I realized immediately that if we really wanted to decorate our door for Thanksgiving/ Fall the first thing we needed was a wreath, but neither of us had a wreath. So instead of buying one I logged on to Pinterest to brainstorm some ideas. What I found was some scarf wrapped wreaths. I just happened to find a pretty brown scarf recently and my roommate had a steering wheel cover, but no car. So if you combine those you have the wreath pictured below.

We then decided that addinig leaves would make it even more fall like. So on our way walking across campus on our way back from lunch my roommate and I collected some of our favorite leaves. These are a great idea because they are free and alllllll over my campus. Also a really fun and relaxing outdoor activity. I think it would be really fun to do with kids. After we brought the leaves back we just stuck the stem sides of the leaves into the scarf.

Then as Thanksgiving got closer I decided that I wanted to do turkeys but I wasn't quite sure how until I found this idea on Pinterest. I'm always looking for ideas to use toilet paper rolls, because I save them thinking they are soooo useful, but sometimes have trouble finding uses and I hate to just throw them away. Just used a toilet paper roll, a paper plates, glue/tape, something to color with, and some construction paper.

I think this also would be a super fun project to do with kids. There are so many different ways to interpret and make a turkey that when a couple of my friends made some all of our turkeys looked completely different. We wound up with 3 turkeys around our door at the end. I found that they also make really cute center pieces or even napkin holders. good luck and I hope this inspired some holiday DIY. Will be posting my decorations for Christmas as soon as I do them. I have some great ideas and I can't wait to share them. =)

Amigurumi Hulk

This is the second doll that I have made with this pattern, that I wrote myself. =) I first introduced this doll pattern, when I made my own superhero called "The Yarn Bomber" in a post here

This is him after I finally added his smile.
This is the only picture of him with a mouth.

Paint Sample Card Box

My roommate Cristina works in a hardware store. So she can get lots of paint sample cards for free :) so I decided to to make a box out of them, because I saw it in a picture on pinterest. This was my first try at a box

Newest Bow

Newest bow and its neon rainbow :)

Bowtastic: Crocheted Bow Necklaces

Here is a set of crochet bow necklaces and accesorries. I saw some very similar bow necklaces in an etsy store here and loved them sooo much that I had to recreate them. Her's are a little bigger and she uses a different style of chain. They are very unique and beautiful so if you wanted to get one you should definitely look into heading over there and buying one from her shop. =)

*My friend Cristina was nice enough to model the necklaces for me, so I could take pictures =)*

(This one was a little different because the chain was
longer. I added a lobster hook in the back so that the length is adjustable. That is why it is a different length in the other pictures)

I had a small piece of extra chain when I finished some necklaces. While trying to figure out what to do with it I wrapped it around my fingers and thus the idea was born. I crocheted a much smaller bow and then hooked it to the chain on either side of the center.

Comment to let me know which length you liked best or what you think =) I love feedback. You could also suggest colors for the next one because I have the chain ready to make 2 more and need color ideas. =) See ya soon

Decorated Door for Halloween

So me and my roommate wanted to decorate the door. She wanted to go to the party store, but i wanted to try a more pocket friendly version. I'm in college so its very important to try and save money wherever you can. So I have a craft shoe box in my closet and two weekends back  I had bought a pack of colored construction paper, cause construction paper is an extremely useful craft supply and the whole pack of 96 sheets only cost 2 bucks.

So asked her why don't we make decorations instead. So we did =) and these are the results. I tried to use one sheet of each color. It makes you really think outside trying to use blue, pink, and purple for Halloween. I just took 7 pages and a couple hours. So it includes a moon, some bats, a blue ghost and a white ghost, a witchs hat with a spider on it, two Frankensteins, four pumpkins, a cauldron, and a "bloody" Boo

Created My Own Superhero, Then Crocheted Her

I was brainstorming Halloween costume ideas and had been thinking for a couple days when I thought of maybe being a superhero. Then I was thinking okay, but what would I be the superhero of? And then it hit me =) Her name is "The Yarn Bomber" and she has telekinesis, but prefers to use it mainly on yarn. So I drew out what I would wear if I was a crocheting superhero and this is what I came up with =) comfortable, non revealing, and functional.

Then I was debating what color to make her and her emblem, because color is a very big part of yarn crafting. I scanned the picture into my computer pasted the cropped pictures and printed out a coloring page. I took out my markers and colored in all the combinations I wanted to see in action. As soon as I saw the yellow suit I was in love with it so that's why 7 of the 8 of them are yellow. It's also my favorite color.

You can see below that I choose yellow and blue =) the emblem on her chest is felt that I colored with permanent markers. I made the pattern myself, which I'm really proud of  =) Her hair was actually the hardest part, probably because I'd never made hair before. Her little mask is actually one long piece of chaining and two shorter pieces sew onto the face.

I then add a ball of yarn to her hand and used 4 pieces of yarn tied and then spun around, because the head was already sewn shut, to make the mask look less like glasses and more like a mask =)

I made the ball of yarn the same way you would make a normal ball of yarn except I started wrapping the yarn just around one finger. Once the ball was stable enough and the size I wanted I tucked in the end piece so it wouldn't unravel. I stuck a small piece of blue yarn through the ball and her hand and tied them together. I then added a piece of yarn coming out of the ball, so that even if this yarn gets pulled the ball is still intact.

I got my yellow morphsuit in the mail on Tuesday so I should have my costume ready by Halloween =) Seeya Soon
