New Yarn Bombing

This is the newest yarn bomb that I have done =) I made a black band to fit tightly around the pole and then a blue rectangle. I then pressed the middle of the blue rectangle together and secured it with a long chain with two rows of single crochets on each side. Then I sewed the bow to the band using blue yarn.

Created My Own Superhero, Then Crocheted Her

I was brainstorming Halloween costume ideas and had been thinking for a couple days when I thought of maybe being a superhero. Then I was thinking okay, but what would I be the superhero of? And then it hit me =) Her name is "The Yarn Bomber" and she has telekinesis, but prefers to use it mainly on yarn. So I drew out what I would wear if I was a crocheting superhero and this is what I came up with =) comfortable, non revealing, and functional.

Then I was debating what color to make her and her emblem, because color is a very big part of yarn crafting. I scanned the picture into my computer pasted the cropped pictures and printed out a coloring page. I took out my markers and colored in all the combinations I wanted to see in action. As soon as I saw the yellow suit I was in love with it so that's why 7 of the 8 of them are yellow. It's also my favorite color.

You can see below that I choose yellow and blue =) the emblem on her chest is felt that I colored with permanent markers. I made the pattern myself, which I'm really proud of  =) Her hair was actually the hardest part, probably because I'd never made hair before. Her little mask is actually one long piece of chaining and two shorter pieces sew onto the face.

I then add a ball of yarn to her hand and used 4 pieces of yarn tied and then spun around, because the head was already sewn shut, to make the mask look less like glasses and more like a mask =)

I made the ball of yarn the same way you would make a normal ball of yarn except I started wrapping the yarn just around one finger. Once the ball was stable enough and the size I wanted I tucked in the end piece so it wouldn't unravel. I stuck a small piece of blue yarn through the ball and her hand and tied them together. I then added a piece of yarn coming out of the ball, so that even if this yarn gets pulled the ball is still intact.

I got my yellow morphsuit in the mail on Tuesday so I should have my costume ready by Halloween =) Seeya Soon

Yarn Bombing

I've been wanting to yarn bomb for a while. So about 3 weeks ago as a birthday gift to myself I finally did it =) I started by picking a target, a pole in front of the building I live in. This way I would see it frequently and so could everyone else. Unfortunetly, since I live on a campus there is not any time when everyone is asleep and the coast is clear. Because of this I had to change my plans last minute and change to a more secluded location. The pole I measured was slightly thicker than the pole I eventually used so the yarn bomb was a little loose when i got it on.

This is a few pictures of me working on it right before I finished. I didn't take any pictures before this point because I forgot =) This is me sitting on the floor, on my yellow rug =)

Then I attached a note to it. Its just a folded index card that I punch a hole in using a hole punch. I then made a slip knot on the card and then made another slip stitch on the actual yarn bomb itself. This way it could not be removed as easily unless you have scissors which most people don't carry with them around campus.

You can see what both sides say above =) It rained two days after
it was posted it and the note fell off, but i found the note
and had 5 yes's in the like collum!!  =)

This is a picture of it all finished just as I'm getting ready to go attach it. I brought with me one long piece of black yarn, that I was doubly sure would be enough cause it's better to end with extra then to run out in the middle. Also I bought a large tapestry needle, that was already threaded and two friends =)

These are all pictures of it as soon as it went up. Just a Tip: You don't wanna wait until morning, even though it gives better pictures, because it may not be there in the morning and then you may not get any pictures at all =)

And this is the next day in the sun light so it's a better picture =) The yarn bomb is still up now and its been almost 3 weeks =) I may take it down to wash it and move it to a different pole soon =)
