Valentines for Strangers

I had quite a few crochet hearts left just hanging around before Valentine's day and Alfredo suggested a fun and sweet way to give them away. I always like it when quotes from video games are put in real life, so I made up this poster and popped some holes in the bottom using a Christmas tree punch. I tied the hearts through the holes and voila!

This is what it looked like hung up on the pole across from my window so I could watch.

I had a bit of a stake out with my camera stealth-fully placed through the windows shades the be less visible. I really just wanted to make sure nobody ruined the sign for everyone else. I did eventually move the sign in front of my door because there's more foot traffic.

When I got back on campus the sign was completely empty =)

My Fantastic Parental Valentines: Part 2

So my Mom's package arrived today and I said I'd share with you what She sent me. It took me 15 minutes to get the box open. She and one of my younger sisters love tape =) She is a little more practical than my dad and sent me food!!! Not that I don't love my Dad's more sugary assortment. My parents are like the opposite side of a very awesome coin. Got microwavable rice for a while now =)

The orange packets are microwavable rice which is what I eat if I don't have time to get to the Student Union Building or it's after hours and closed. The roasted chicken variety, of which there are 3, are my favorites and I'm sure that's why Mom got me more of that flavor than any other. Also she sent Peanut m&m's which I love. Yellow and Blue are my favorites. I'm looking forward to the Hershey mini's too, the assortment will keep me from getting bored =) The huge XOXO is probably my favorite just because its a huge hunk of solid chocolate in the shape of love. My parents rock! I know most teens wouldn't say that, but its true. Post again soon =)

My Fantastic Parental Valentines

So my parents are awesome =) they knew I wouldn't be home for valentines day so both my parents sent me big packages full of valentines day stuff. Mom mom's hasn't arrived yet, but I'd like to share what my Dad sent and I'll add my Mom's tomorrow or whenever it gets here.

This is a picture of all the stuff arranged on my laptop. There is an owl paddle ball, sweetheart, a heart shaped bendy straw cup, heart cups and napkins, chocolate lips, two New York puzzels cause my school is close to New York, two cards, Valentine's Day themed Wack-a-packs (in video below), four heart shaped boxes of chocolates, and seed beads for my crafting =) Isn't he awesome? It was a total surprise too

These are Wack-A-Packs. They are Valentine themed so they say things like "Bee Mine", "100% Love", "All I need is your Love", and "I love you forever". The instructions on the package said 1) wack packet, shake, and drop on ground 2) Wait. The one that worked best I don't have a recording of, but here's what two of them looked like. The balloon that pops out fills up a bit more and become hard. The Bee mine one is shown in the big picture up top.

Valentine's Day Personal Challenge Results

So for my little Valentine's Day challenge for myself I made 76 hearts in total. I gave about 10 heart to 4 of my friends so I handed out about 27 by myself, after I put the 9 for my family aside which will come up in a later post =) I made one lunch ladies day and I left one girl shouting “I got love! I got love!” It really is a great feeling to make someone else feel good about themselves. I brightened 70 people’s days and it only took me 2 days while watching movies. I only had one heart not given away at the end of the day. I plan to carry this heart until the next time someone does a good deed and give it to them as a kind of token of their kindness.

But I don’t think this kind of thing should be reserved to Valentine’s Day I think all people should feel love every day. I have long imagined making hundreds or thousands of these little hearts and going to a busy place like time square and handing them out just to brighten a passerby’s day. Maybe someday I’ll realize this dream.

Sharing Some Valentine’s Day Love

Sharing Some Valentine’s Day Love

A year or two ago, when I was still in high school, I wanted to make sure all my friends felt good on Valentine’s day not just my Valentine. So I took my yarn collection and spent a couple days while watching TV making a bunch of different colored crochet hearts.
I filled an old chocolate box so I must have had at least 50. I also included in the box a crocheting hook and a ball of pink and a ball of yellow yarn so I could replenish my stock. I started off the day by letting each of my friends pick their favorites and through each class I would crochet while listening.
I gave a heart to each of my teachers and by the end of the day when I knew all of my friends had a heart, anyone sitting near me got one. Almost my whole health class got a heart that day and I think the thing that made it most special is that they actually got to see me make them =) so they saw the love and care I put into each one. Also I didn’t just hand them a heart I told each and every person why they were getting a heart. Most sounded like this “because your special and everyone deserves love on Valentine’s Day”.
This year I’m going to try to outdo myself and scale it up. This year not only will I be giving them out, but I will be giving a few to each of my friends and they’ll be handing them out. So not only will my friends get that great feeling, but more people can receive a heart =). I’ll post later saying how many I made and how well it went =) seeya then.

I used June Gilbank’s pattern from her blog Planet June http://www.planetjune.com/blog/free-crochet-patterns/love-hearts/    I used the "A: small heart" for my hearts. Its a great pattern. It's clear, concise, and quick to make.
