Crochet Challenge!! Day 20: Favorite Item Made

The theme of today is favorite item ever made. My favorite thing I ever made is definitely the little hamburger amigurumi I made. He is super adorable and I made the pattern myself. Also he just so fun to make.

He comes completely apart and each of the pieces still looks like what it is even when he is not assembled. I feel like he would make a cute kids toy or just a desk decoration. The top of his head is based off the top of a monsters head and the bottom is two circles sew together and I think I put a round piece of cardboard in between them also. You can see in the back the other version i made of the bottom bun.

One hornonary mention for favorite item made is the blanket that I made Magan and Kyle for their wedding. Its definitely the biggest project I have ever done, I think the finished blanket was 7' by 8'. It took a while to make all of the granny squares and attach them.

Baby Gift for my Cousin

My cousin was expecting his first baby. So I wanted to make him a nice gift for the baby. Normally it would be pretty simple, a pastel or rainbow colored baby blanket, because where I live and where most of my family lives it is a useful gift. When I suggested this to my Aunt she reminded me that he is stationed in Hawaii and that even though they may use the gift it would be very rarely.

I was then thinking of making a crocheted mobile, but this posed problems, because I did not know how they were going to hang it and my Aunt did not know what theme if any they were using for the nursery.

I then set my sights on making some sort of toy. This is a little harder, because the did not intend to find out the gender of the baby. This ruled out any blue or pink stuffed animals. I then thought maybe I'd use that interesting camo yarn because my cousin is in the military, but I'm not sure how they'd feel about that. So that idea was also out.

I was almost about to give up the whole idea when I thought of just making a simple color cube. Colors are good for brain development so I always try to make baby items colorful and I think this fits the bill. It also has a rattle in the very middle, so it makes noise as you shake it. I placed the sides so that each of the secondary colors was next to the two primary colors that produce it. This is easy to make because you only need 6 squares of any color(s) which you then stuff and sew together.

Over all a very simple baby gift that I hope my cousin will like.

(This is a post from a couple years back that I never posted . He now has two children, but I still wanted to share the simple idea.)

Dad's Rubber Ducky

My Dad loves rubber ducks. He has a huge collection. He has over a thousand ducks and he has a whole website dedicated to it. http://www.rubberduckpond.com/ Not all of his ducks are on his website, but a large portion are. My sister Magan, who is at art school and took a glass blowing class, made him a giant glass rubber duck. I've been planning to make him a duck for a while and was suppose to make him one for Christmas. He found the pattern online by himself after I had already started it, so I took that as a sign that I should finish it =) Below is the finished product and the result of a random rubber duck photo shoot I did while I waited for my friend to be ready to go to lunch =) I used the free pattern on the pixie kitten website http://www.pixiekitten.com/

Finished Ninja

Hey =) So you know how I said the ninja turtle was gonna be a "craft along"? and I would update my progress about every other day? Well that didn't quite work out as planned. I went a little nuts and finished it in 12 hours. Half of those 12 hours were spent away from my work in the cafeteria. I guess it took me about 5-6 hrs while watching movies. I started out taking step by step pictures, like the ones below, but then my camera battery started to die.

By the time it had charged enough to take more pictures, he was completely done. One of the things I like is that even though I know his bandanna shouldn't be tied on the side and I didn't do so on purpose I think I like it better that way. If memory serves the red one had a lot of attitude in the show too, so it displays his roughness.
The color in the pictures above and below have and odd color to them

The bandanna is more of the color it looks in these pictures
