Crochet Challenge!! Day 18: WIPS #2

This is the second day of the challenge with the theme "Work in Progress". The project that I am currently working on is a baby blanket for my future nephew, who is due in a couple months. I started this blanket before we knew the gender so I chose a very gender neutral color and idea. It is a bee hive blanket. And will have tiny little bees flying all around it when I'm done.

You have to make each of the hexagons separately and then sew them all together so it's been taking me a pretty long time, but it is a very easy project to carry around which is nice.

If you would like to join the challenge you can find it in usscrafy's blog:

Reengineering a Pattern my Grandmother Taught me

Years ago when I was about 10 my grandmom was having trouble finishing the baby blanket for one of my cousin's babies. So she taught me the pattern which she called the shadow box stitch and I finished it under her guiding hand. She made these baby blankets with a beautiful pastel rainbow yarn and since then I have been looking for the pattern. I have been unable to find it, but today while messing around I was able to partially recreate it :) I think it came out pretty ok and makes me want to whip up some rainbow colored baby blankets.
