Making the door a Monster

      In preperation for Halloween I decided to decorate the door at the dorm.

       I got these giant googly eyes at target for $3 and it inspired the idea. I used those and roll of white contact paper. I just had to cut the tooth shape and stick it up. I moved the eyes around a but until I liked the look. 

       I then added electrical tape eyebrows and a couple of the paper shapes that I had made a couple years back. Which include pumpkins, Frankenstein, a cauldron, and a moon. 

Birthday Box!

My sister's birthday was this past week and I live relatively far away. So I mailed her a birthday in a box. It was just a plain cardboard box on the outside and I filled it with confetti and candy and blown up balloons.

The best thing about the balloons is that they add a lot of joy and take up a lot of space without weighting too much which makes the shipping a lot less. To ship this whole 13"x 11"x 9" box only cost me 5 bucks.

I had several good quality happy birthday balloons around so they didn't cost me much and I also had some random candy from a birthday party bag that I went to the week before. So all I had to do was buy a bulk pack of fun sized twix, which is one of her favorite candy bars. The confetti was just some shredded construction paper.

I wrote the instructions on how to refill the package
and pass it along on one of the inner box flaps

Finished Monster Backpacks

            Here are the two finished back packs, except that the green one is still missing eyes. This is a very simple step so I consider them pretty much finished at this point. Attaching the teeth is the longest and hardest part, but even that is easy enough that a novice such as my self could do it. The felt is a key component to the ease of this project, because felt does not frey. This means that as long as you attach the teeth securely to the project you are good to go. This is unlike any other fabric, which you would have to put a seam on the prevent deterieration. 

            The backpacks are already in use and both his cousins seem to like them. They used them on the first day of school. Each of the monsters are their favorite colors :)

Below I included some images of what it looked like while I was sewing on the teeth, incase someone was interested in exactly how I sewed them. I opened the zipper and just sewed along in a line along the shaoe of the teeth.

Birthday Yarn Bomb 2

          I continued my tradition of yarn bombing on my birthday with this on Wednesday. I started it Tuesday night at 9 pm and had it finished and up on the pole by 3 am. Its not my best work, because the 22 looks kinda funny. 

          I sewed them a distance that looked appropriate while i was making it, but when wrapped around a pole the 2's got kinda far apart. 

          The balloons are pretty cute though. I started by chaining 3, I put 3 stitches in the stitches on both sides and one in the middle. 

          Then I only expanded in the end stitches: 

                  2nd row= *1 sc, 2 in next*

                  3rd row= *2 sc, 2 in next*

                  4th row= *3 sc, 2 in next*    Continue until the balloon is the size you wish by increasing the red number by 1 each row

Monster Backpack

This is a cute little back pack I made to look like a monster. I just used some white felt and googly eyes.

What you'll need:

*Some Glue that works on both fabric and plastic

*"Wiggly Eyes"

*Sewing Supplies 

Open the front pocket and sew with the white all the way around the teeth. just a simple up and down stitch will do the trick. 

Zip the pocket closed and then move the eyes around until you find a position you like. Follow the directions on the glue, but most will say to apply it to both materials and then press them together.

Crochet Snail at Work

I made a sample amigurumi for work a year ago and today I randomly decided to finally take pictures. If you live near the Ac Moore in Voorhees you can go take a look at the cute little guy. He's just a little guy that I randomly picked out of one of the amigurumi books that AC Moore sells.
