Making the door a Monster

In preperation for Halloween I decided to decorate the door at the dorm.

I got these giant googly eyes at target for $3 and it inspired the idea. I used those and roll of white contact paper. I just had to cut the tooth shape and stick it up. I moved the eyes around a but until I liked the look.

I then added electrical tape eyebrows and a couple of the paper shapes that I had made a couple years back. Which include pumpkins, Frankenstein, a cauldron, and a moon.

Birthday Box!

My sister's birthday was this past week and I live relatively far away. So I mailed her a birthday in a box. It was just a plain cardboard box on the outside and I filled it with confetti and candy and blown up balloons.

The best thing about the balloons is that they add a lot of joy and take up a lot of space without weighting too much which makes the shipping a lot less. To ship this whole 13"x 11"x 9" box only cost me 5 bucks.

I had several good quality happy birthday balloons around so they didn't cost me much and I also had some random candy from a birthday party bag that I went to the week before. So all I had to do was buy a bulk pack of fun sized twix, which is one of her favorite candy bars. The confetti was just some shredded construction paper.

I wrote the instructions on how to refill the package
and pass it along on one of the inner box flaps

Hope this gives someone some good ideas =) post again soon =)

Finished Monster Backpacks

Here are the two finished back packs, except that the green one is still missing eyes. This is a very simple step so I consider them pretty much finished at this point. Attaching the teeth is the longest and hardest part, but even that is easy enough that a novice such as my self could do it. The felt is a key component to the ease of this project, because felt does not frey. This means that as long as you attach the teeth securely to the project you are good to go. This is unlike any other fabric, which you would have to put a seam on the prevent deterieration.

The backpacks are already in use and both his cousins seem to like them. They used them on the first day of school. Each of the monsters are their favorite colors :)

Below I included some images of what it looked like while I was sewing on the teeth, incase someone was interested in exactly how I sewed them. I opened the zipper and just sewed along in a line along the shaoe of the teeth.

Hope you enjoyed this and I'll post again soon :)

Birthday Yarn Bomb 2

I continued my tradition of yarn bombing on my birthday with this on Wednesday. I started it Tuesday night at 9 pm and had it finished and up on the pole by 3 am. Its not my best work, because the 22 looks kinda funny.
I sewed them a distance that looked appropriate while i was making it, but when wrapped around a pole the 2's got kinda far apart.
The balloons are pretty cute though. I started by chaining 3, I put 3 stitches in the stitches on both sides and one in the middle.
Then I only expanded in the end stitches:
                  2nd row= *1 sc, 2 in next*
                  3rd row= *2 sc, 2 in next*
4th row= *3 sc, 2 in next*    Continue until the balloon is the size you wish by increasing the red number by 1 each row

If you would like to see my first yarn bomb you can find it here. Post again soon =)

Monster Backpack

This is a cute little back pack I made to look like a monster. I just used some white felt and googly eyes.

What you'll need:

*Some Glue that works on both fabric and plastic

*"Wiggly Eyes"

*Sewing Supplies

Open the front pocket and sew with the white all the way around the teeth. just a simple up and down stitch will do the trick.

Zip the pocket closed and then move the eyes around until you find a position you like. Follow the directions on the glue, but most will say to apply it to both materials and then press them together.

Airplane Crayon Melt Art for Alfredo

I have a new wonderful boyfriend, who treats me very well and is very handsome and sweet =) . His name is Alfredo and he loves airplanes and was a pilot in his home country. So he inspired this crayon melt of a classic airplane. He gave me a list of his favorite planes and after a couple days of Googling I found the perfect silhouette. (even though I now know it is not one from his list) It is a Piper PA-28 Cherokee and he likes it very much. He is having it framed which is super flattering.

One of the things I did not like is the way that the white poster board reacted to the oil of the crayons. It made the board damp looking and 3 weeks later it has still not faded. Some people liked the effect that it gave, but I'm not sold. I think I will have to seal the white poster board next time to avoid the discoloration.

He also insists on carrying everything =) my books, my backpack, my shopping bags. He opens doors and pulls out chairs and holds my hand and is just the best.

Gushing over =P post again soon

Another Crayon Melt Art (Golden Snitch)

Golden Stitch "I Open at the Close"

           1. Pick the crayons that you wish to use. I snap mine in half to get more width out of the crayons. They are so long that you don't need a whole crayon worth of wax to melt down the board.

          2. Get a hot glue gun and glue the crayons along the top of the board. You can peel the wrapper off if you want, but I like to leave mine on. Make sure you have glue sticks near by because you will use up glue quickly.

           3. Print a picture that is simple, like a silhouette and and cute painter's tape into the shape you want. The simpler the shape the easier it is to cut and remove later.

           4. Place the painter's tape on the board where you would like the negative image to be.

           5. Put paper up in the location where you would like to melt the crayons. I've found that the melting is not too messy, but the paper makes it a lot more worry feel. at the end you can just pick up all the paper and throw the mess away.

          6. A picture of it sitting right before I melt it.

          7. Melt the crayons. This can take 30 mins to an hour with a blowdryer and is messier or about 20 mins with a heat gun. If you hold it too close the crayons will splatter. so hold about 6-8 inches away and be patient. you want to full cover your negative image and make sure to go a bit below it to make your negative image clear.

**If you are using a heat gun avoid heating the tape too much or it will melt and become hard to remove.**

          8. Then while the crayons are still kinda soft but not liquid, remove the tape. a pair of tweezers may help with this step.

Above is the finished product =)

Classic Crochet Gameboy Backpack

As you may remember I made a orange game boy bag last year. A friend of a friend saw it and requested a classic one.

So Viola! A classic game boy bag =) I love this one even more then mine, because its just so cute! It is slightly smaller than mine but better to scale with a real game boy. I think it is also better constructed because the first version of anything is always a bit of a mess.

It is the perfect size for 2 skeins of my favorite brand of yarn and is a perfect yarn bag because It will stretch if an excessive amount of weight is applied. My goal is to learn how to line them so that they can support more weight. A cute Tetris or Pokemon fabric would be perfect.

Finished product! =)
So that's all for today =) If anybody has any tips on learning to line a bag just let me know down below =) Post again soon

Slowly but surely building a chase scene :)
